patient [pey-shuh nt] adj. 1.bearing provocation, annoyance, misfortune, delay, hardship, pain, etc., with fortitude and calm and without complaint, anger, or the like. patience [pey-shuh ns] noun 1.an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay. 2.quiet, steady perseverance.

the dr appointment went well yesterday. cole continues to do very well in his exams....we are so proud of him. the dr tells us that things are continuing to clear up and they can now tell that he for sure has a cataract in his right eye so that is one reason cole is not able to see out of that eye. they will not be able to see if there is any retina damage until cole has the operation to remove the cataract and they want to wait three to five weeks until the inflammation is completely gone and the eye is totally healed before we do it. they will also be monitoring his glaucoma pressures to determine when to put in the tube/shunt.

the dr says "wait and see" and i say "great! no problem, if you can guarantee the see part" which, of coarse, he can not do...so really it's just wait and that is hard. as much as i want to, i can not make myself be patient. in fact, i find the definition of patient to be impossible and i'd love to know if the person who defined the word was actually able to practice it. what kicks my booty is the fact that i actually know the person who defined patience, i know He's able to practice it, He wants show me how, and [oh the irony] He is actually being patient with me at this very moment!

right now we have to help cole see the best he can with what he's got. so for the time being, cole is officially low vision or visually impaired. we needed this label so that he qualifies to receive the help he needs at school. this next week he will meet with the district's visual impairment specialist and they will determine what modifications will need to be made at school. we will also probably have him evaluated at the children's center for the visually impaired. they specialize in helping kids do the most with the vision they have. we are really blessed to have such and amazing resource right here in kc!

thank you all so much for keeping us in your prayers, for the many gifts, the phone calls to say you care and the yummy meals. the encouragement and support you have given us has been amazing and we could not have made it this far without your help. so thank you thank you thank you.

Summer, I appreciate your honest and expressive thoughts. Patience is hard. Certainly God understands how difficult this is even more than those of us who care and want to be of support. We love you and continue to be in prayer.
