cole, eli and I spent the weekend in bartlesville visiting my family...we missed brent but it was nice to get away and catch our breath. cole's eye continues to look better...he keeps it open about half way now and the skin around his eye is back to normal. we will see the dr on tuesday and hopefully the redness and inflammation will be clear and we will be able to set a date for the cataract surgery...we are hoping for early march.
cole's spirits are good, i think he understands as much as possible what is going on. he and i have talked about how it's kind of like God is patching his right eye right now so that his left eye can get stronger. they tested the vision in his left eye on tuesday and it is already showing improvement:) i have explained the cataract to him by telling him that the lens in his eye was like a wind shield and that it is really dirty right now and that's why he can't see through it. he knows that during surgery the dr's are going to clean it by giving him a new lens. at first mr logical thought he was going to get a whole new eye but i told him no, when the wind shield on your car is broken you don't get a whole new car, you just get a new wind shield. then he wanted me to show him on eli where exactly his lens was and i was all out of analogies :) cole said the other day that he used to only see out of his right eye and now he only sees out of his left eye and that he wonders what it will be like to see out of both eyes, followed by "it's a good thing that God gave us two eyes, in case one doesn't work" :) school has also been going well for him, he has enjoyed being back. his teacher said this about him in an email to me this week, "Cole is having a good day. He has been in good spirits and working hard on his work. He is such a trooper! He doesn't complain about anything and just keeps plugging away!"
please continue to pray for our sweet boy...some specific things to pray for are: the inflammation to clear, that we will be able to set the cataract surgery date asap, that there was no damage to his retina and that his left eye continues to get stronger.
